Dublin City Council today will be providing Dublin City goers with free…yes free Wifi all around Dublin, full service will be phased in over the next couple of weeks.
The service will be free to use and this will give you access to download speeds of 512kb and uploads of 128kb, hardly lightning quick but its not bad. How these low speeds will hold up with potentially hundreds of people connected remains to be seen.
Users can also pay for the service and they can then get faster speeds should they wish, but I’d imagine anyone working in the areas who have contracts would not opt for this.
It is great to see this happen and it hopefully other locations such as shopping centers will follow in DCC’s footsteps.
So to find the locations you can look at this Google Map or you can look on street corners for the 8bit men and women as seen above and finally the initial list is below:
- Barnardo’s Square
- Clarendon Street
- Frontage to the Convention Centre Dublin

- O’Connell Street Plaza/GPO
