First Time Users Deem Blackberry 10 Confusing and Frustrating – #BB10 #Blackberry

Mashable have taken a Z10 running Blackberry’s latest OS BB10 and let users try it out, keep in mind that they have not been shown how to do things and this is their first go.

In the video the users are tasked with unlocking the device, finding an email, and opening an app.

As some would report, this is apparently not how things are done and most users watch tutorials about their new phones…I say not so, most everyday non mobile obsessive geeks don’t do this.

For me, I would not think I would have any issues with BB10 as I have used MeeGo for ages and am familiar with gestures on an OS.  However for most people gestures are a pain, confusing as seen here and in BB10’s case too widely used across the OS.

Take iOS or Windows Phone, a first time user will easily pick these up and within a minute or two be almost at home.  Android to some extent also but it is quickly becoming the new Symbian in my view, it has so many rabbit holes and areas to dig through.

So while industry folk and gadget geeks will quite like BB10 I cant see your average user liking this that much.

What do you think…let us know.

    • But this is the point of the post….there is virtually no learning curve on other OSes.

Take a user coming into a store who tries it out for a couple of minutes, they may well reject it straight away…hopefully not.

Gestures are great but not as the primary method of getting around the OS.

  1. A friend of mine handed me his iPhone a few days ago so I could look up something online–I had forgotten my own phone. I stared blankly at the screen for a good 15-20 seconds before he told me that the compass icon was the browser.

None of these devices are as intuitive as you think. There is a learning curve to all of them.

Well, I’m afraid you’d have no choice. There is an unskippable BB10 tutorial that you have to go through the first time you power up the device. And the retail display units have an demonstration app to show you the features.

    • This what we are getting at…you sound like you are tech and mobile savy and should not an issue too much.

However there is a big difference between not know what the web browser icon is and not knowing how to move around an OS at all.

As for the tutorial its good its there…should be made skippable but good to have for newbies.

I worry that while I like BB10 in parts tge public just wont get it….they didnt get Meego which was similar and way easier to use.

Thanks for viewing the blog by the way…we love debate and user opinion so thesr back and forths are great.
