For me gaming on a PC using the keyboard and mouse was never that fun, not with FPS and action games anyway. I’m from the generation that grew up with the NES,Master System and right up to the 32X before true next gen hit.
So I really do need a gamepad to play comfortably as will many others. Options up to now have been okay with many accessory companies releasing PC compatible gamepads and even the Xbox 360 pad worked.
But now we have reports from The Penny Arcade that in 2014 with a software update you will be able to use the Xbox One gamepad with PC games.
The PA team asked a Microsoft representative if we will be able to use the XBO gamepad with PC, here is what they had to say:
“As we’ve stated, the Xbox One controller, although it looks similar in many ways, shares no underlying technology with the current Xbox 360 controller,” a Microsoft representative told the Report. “New wireless protocol, combined with the ability to work in ‘wired’ mode, and the addition of features like Impulse triggers, means that new software has to be written and optimized for the PC.”
“There is also some work that we need to do to make sure that existing PC games that support the Xbox 360 controller, will work with the Xbox One controller,” they continued. “While it seems trivial, it’s actually quite a bit of dedicated work for all that to be seamless for the user. We know people want to use the Xbox One controller on their PC, and we do too – we expect to have the functionality available in 2014.”
