Okay so I couldn’t resist that headline, big business these days is a lot like boys, technology started with massive devices and companies saying ‘mines bigger than yours’. Then we had the micro-sizing of everything, with ‘mines smaller than yours’, and now we are back to a ‘mines bigger than yours’ again.
A recent leak or rumor coming from Paul Thurrott is that Microsoft’s up-coming Windows Phone GDR3 will not only allow for 5″ and 6″ devices but also up to massive 10″ displays…..be still my beating heart.
All joking aside, normally devices bigger than a phablet would run Windows RT so I would be surprised if device makers would choose a phone OS over a tablet OS for their tablets.
Also noted by Paul is that Windows Phone 8.1 will possibly remove the back button which I personally like and get and know how to use, but apparently its too complicated for some. Surprisingly again, the search button seems to be retained, lets hope it can be remapped to something other than Bing.
Seemingly a binary is also being written to allow for Windows RT and Phone to be merged so that an RT app could run on WP8 and visa versa, it will be interesting to see.
What do you think of this rumor, plausible, or nonsense.
