For the last few years there have been stories about Google moving some of their data centers offshore and now it seems that they may be testing this out. A barge has been seen in the San Francisco Bay area and while there is not much to it, or creditable proof that this is a Google barge, it is likely that it is Google’s.
Why would Google bring their data centers offshore like this, there are tax implications, they would pay less being in international waters for example. However there are huge expenses doing anything on water, not to mention what actually happens if barges sank due to rough weather.
