Xbox One The Reveal and Compare Against PS4 – #XboxOne #Microsoft

Microsoft have finally taken the wraps off their next generation console which we now know will be called Xbox One.  At first this naming seems to be at odds with normal naming conventions, to the casual person doesn’t PS4 mean greater than Xbox One.

Don’t think of it like this for one second, this is a reboot if you will of the Xbox brand, this is Xbox One, will we see Xbox Two in 5-8 years, unknown but this new naming will allow for this.

So what do we know about its internals, well pretty much as expected, Microsoft have chosen to use 8GB of DDR3 RAM which is a slightly inferior but still excellent.

  • 8 Core CPU
  • 8 GB DDR3 system memory
  • 500 GB Hard Drive
  • Blu-Ray Drive
  • 802.11n Wireless with Wi-Fi Direct
  • Gigabit Ethernet
  • HDMI in and out
  • At least 2 USB 3.0 ports
  • SPDIF output
  • IR output

As you can see below we still do not know some of the PS4 specs but right now Xbox One is shaping up to be an amazing bit of kit for your home

User Interface

At the Xbox One’s event yesterday, Microsoft lifted the lid on some details on the new interface that powers the Xbox One.

The system will be deeply integrated with Microsoft’s new version of their Kinect, and users will have access to more voice commands and functionality than ever before. Such as saying ‘Xbox: On’ and the device will return exactly to where it was previously when switched off, with minimal delay, an excellent feature.

Microsoft also talked about a new ‘Snap’ mode which allows users to use the interface, Kinect and the controller to do more than one thing at a time. Examples of this include browsing the net while watching a movie. It is also possible to use Skype at the same time as watching TV, a movie or playing a game by use of the Snap feature.
